1930s World War Gum Card, no.35, Balloon Observation.    Entitled balloon observation, of an extremely scarce set of 1930s trading cards known as World War Chewing Gum cards. Issued by Goudey Gum Co. These Sausage Balloons were used during World War I to control the accuracy of artillery fire. This card is in somewhat modest condition, mostly because of corner and edge wear. However, the image is in great condition. No creases.

1939 War News Pictures Trading Card, French Motorcylce Unit.     No. 18 of the set, shows a photo of a French Motorcycle Unit. There is a machine gun mounted on the cycle (the sidecar gunner also has one). They call this a swift mechanized unit of warfare. A Very Good to Excellent condition card with a bit of corner/edge wear. A small red stain in the sky.

18 different 1954 Power For Peace cards, issued by Bowman Gum. Includes no. 3, 14, 17, 27, 31, 34, 37, 43, 54, 59, 69, 76, 79, 81, 86, 89, 93 and 96. These cards look Mint, with sharp and vibrant glossy colors. However, since there is a touch of corner jams, I will rate them as Near Mint to Excellent Plus. Almost no wear at all otherwise, very strong condition. They came from the New Orleans find about 20 years ago.

Lot of 2; 1948 Bowman Gum Actor/Actress Cards produced by Bowman Gum Company. This set, along with three sports sets Bowman produced that same year, introduced Bowman to the hobby. Included are #18 Dan Dailey and #28 Eve Arden. These are very difficult to find, I tried to build this set along with the 1948 Bowman sports sets back in the 80, and this was the hardest (‘cept maybe for the Bask. high# series)!! Really great photography and great holograms. Photographs used were taken by famous actor/director Harold Lloyd in a rare 3D format; these were then used to create the holograms. Issued for Pan Handle Scrap and Royal Bengals Little Cigars. As the name implies, includes The Pyramids, Niagara Falls, Brooklyn Bridge, The Ruins of Pompeii, Paris Opera House, Yellowstone, Library of Congress, and many, many other nice views. Very nice illustrations. Most of the cards would probably grade Excellent with a bit of corner wear, some have a touch more corner/edge wear and might grade Very Good. Rather nice set!

3 die cut tobacco cards issued about 1910, from a set known as Soldiers of the World. For Recruit Little Cigars (“no paper not a cigarette”). Although die cut, these are in complete cards, the diecut partially loose but never removed. Includes Officer of Guirassiers Italy, Officer Foot Rifles France, and Officer 6th Regt. Hussars Germany. There are various signs of wear, but since two have the die cuts are partially loose, we will grade them Good condition; the other one has had a stiffener added (glued) to the back and would grade Fair. Two types of tobacco collectibles, both featuring the same portrait of a Guereza Monkey, but with different backgrounds. The card is for Hassan Cork Tip Cigarettes, the silk is for Zira Cigarettes. Four types of tobacco pins/badges/buttons from about 1910, all issued by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes, representing 4 different variations. Three are known as the P-6 type, one is P-10. New York State is a large-print version (i.e., advertising printing on the reverse, P-10), Brazil in also large-print but P-6, Hayti (Haiti) is the small print version P-6, and Great Britian is the closed back type (tin with celluliod backing P-6). Each is about 13/16" diameter. The backings are all in very nice condition. The fronts are lightly soiled, but otherwise in great condition.
